Umer Tahir is Project Lead Developer at AHDB, leading the development of genetic and genomic evaluations for dairy cattle in the UK. He works closely with geneticists, bioinformatic scientists, analysts and developers to design and implement data processing pipelines that enhance service delivery, taking technical ownership across process investigation, requirements gathering, solution design, development, and testing, while ensuring all solutions meet AHDB and SRUC's security and data protection standards.


Umer holds an MSc in Genetics and Genomics from the University of Edinburgh, where his thesis focused on hardware-accelerated imputation of dairy cattle genotypes using FPGAs, and a BSc (Hons) in Computer Sciences from the Institute of Management Sciences. He brings over 20 years of experience spanning software development, systems architecture, business analysis, and data analytics, including long-standing work with SQL Server, T-SQL, SSIS and SSRS, alongside prior roles as a Senior Information Analyst with NHS Forth Valley and as a Software Developer at SRUC.
