These figures give an overview of the fuel markets, focusing on crude oil and average UK diesel prices on both a monthly and annual basis.

Figure 2 shows the price of diesel at the pump (green line) and red diesel (orange line) in pence per litre and crude oil (blue line) in £ per barrel over the past four years. The data behind it can be found in the Fuel prices Excel download below.

Annually

Overview

  • Figures show that the average price of oil stood at $69.59/barrel for 2025 which was a decrease of 12.9 compared with 2024
  • The annual fuel (red diesel and diesel pump) price has decreased in 2025 compared to the previous year
  • Dairy farmers are now paying an annual average of 76.02 ppl for red diesel - a decrease of 4.82ppl (6%) compared to 2024
  • Pump prices for diesel have decreased by 5.78 ppl (3.9%) over the same period

  • The new OPEC Reference Basket (ORB), implemented from 16 June 2005, is made up of the following: Saharan Blend (Algeria), Girassol (Angola), Oriente (Ecuador), Iran Heavy (Islamic Republic of Iran), Basra Light (Iraq), Kuwait Export (Kuwait), Es Sider (Libya), Bonny Light (Nigeria), Qatar Marine (Qatar), Arab Light (Saudi Arabia), Murban (UAE) and Mercy (Venezuela). This price is subject to revision
  • As of January 2006, the monthly and yearly averages are based on daily quotations
