UK farmgate milk prices

These prices represent the average price paid by dairies for all milk purchased in the month. The survey used to collect this information covers approximately 90% of all milk purchased from farms in the UK.
Overview: October 2024
- The UK average milk price for October 2024 was announced by Defra as being 45.17, up 1.99 pence (4.6%) on the previous month.
The GB and NI average milk prices table and commentary will be updated in December once we have received the NI October 2024 milk price from DAERA.
- The average price paid for milk in NI, in September, was 44.19ppl, 2.8% higher than the average paid in GB.
- Prices paid on non-aligned contracts were 0.02ppl below those for aligned contracts in September.
- The GB 5-year average price was 36.28ppl in September, up 5.7% from the same the month in 2023, when it was 34.34 ppl.

The Defra average farmgate price is a weighted average calculated from information collected on total value and volumes of purchased milk in England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland.
