Penrith Monitor Farm meeting: Digging up the dirt on soil health & cover crops
At the February Penrith Monitor Farm meeting, Anne Bhogal (ADAS) will lead us on a journey to better understand our soils and how to best manage them to be healthy and resilient. We will then discuss the use of cover crops with a focus on the Innovative Farmers Field Lab Sheep Grazing On Cover Crops and how livestock and cover crops can compliment the arable rotation.
This meeting will:
- Demonstrate where soil health levels are at on the farm is now.
- Quantify and demonstrate what is good or bad soil health.
- Look at how to assess your soils in a consistent manner.
- Offer a practical look at how to increase rooting in order to improve uptake from soils.
- Discuss cover crop options
- Review the benefits of grazing cover crops
The event is free to attend, but please register to allow us to cater for you accordingly.
If weather permits there will be a short field walk so, please bring suitable footwear/coats.
