Please join Jonathan Fryatt of Ripon monitor farm, for his last monitor farm meeting of the winter season, where we will have a meeting of two halves!

Pete is a Crop Physiologist who has worked at ADAS for 18 years and leads the ADAS Crop Physiology team. He is based at ADAS High Mowthorpe where important areas of his research include; increasing crop yields sustainably, optimising nitrogen nutrition of crops, exploitation of precision farming technologies, lodging control & plant growth regulation and development of reliable pest thresholds.

Andy Langham is a Chartered Health and Safety practitioner. He has been employed as a Health and Safety consultant with Safety Management Services (Europe) Ltd. for 15 years and has responsibility for a wide portfolio of clients including those with land based and heritage interests.

The main aim of Petes work is to improve performance and reduce pollution of cropping systems through an understanding of crop physiology, plant breeding and agronomy. His goal is to produce sound practical advice for the farming industry which is based on rigorous and high quality research, we will focus on

  • Impact of high fertiliser prices on crop management
  • managing crops with large canopies

11.40 Protecting your business, Andy Langham

Andy supports his client base with the development of documented policies, procedures and risk assessments as well as delivering training to workers, managers and directors.

  • The presentation will cover the key Health and Safety impacts on the farming sector, specifically in regard to current injury and ill-health data with comparison to other data where required.
  • We will explore some of the causal factors of injury/ill-health within the industry and discuss how behaviour can influence the outcomes.
  • The content will include reference to relevant codes such as the Farm Assurance Standard and the current requirements for Health and Safety compliance required.
