The Spring Oat Forum seeks to update growers, agronomists and the milling oat industry with results of recent crop trials.
Jointly hosted by AHDB and Gowlett Grain and now in it's fifth year, the Forum focuses on the production of English milling oats. Only 34% of growers felt they were achieving potential when polled at last years forum.
The speakers will present results from the 2021 crop. Dr Sarah Clarke, Crop Physiology Principle Research Scientist, ADAS will draw on year three of the NOATS project looking at nitrogen fertiliser timing and rates as well as the inaugural season of the Oat YEN project.
Bryn Hughes will show his trials results from the millers perspective whilst Andrew Clunes, will devote his presentation to the use of PGRs in spring oats.
Gordon Gowlett with over 40 years experience grain trading and seed production, latterly specialising with oats, now extends this interest to growing spring oats on his family's farm in Cambridgeshire.
Dr Sarah Clarke is a Crop Physiologist at ADAS with a specialism in oats. Her main research objectives are to improve the physiological understanding, agronomy and sustainable productivity of cereals (particularly oats) for growers and the agricultural supply chain. She has particular interests in optimising nutrition and crop quality plus variety performance and is FACTS qualified.
