Market commentary

  • UK feed wheat futures fell yesterday. The Nov-25 contract closed at a new contract low of £163.00/t, down £1.35/t (0.8%) from Monday’s close. The May-26 contract fell by £0.60/t, closing at £173.35/t. As the last trading date approaches, open interest in the Nov-25 futures contract is decreasing
  • Chicago wheat and Paris milling wheat futures (Dec-25) decreased by 0.9% and 0.1% respectively. Chicago grain futures came under pressure from a stronger US dollar index, competition among sellers in the global market, and seasonal harvest pressure for maize
  • IKAR raised the Russian wheat crop forecast from 87.5 Mt to 88 Mt. This Russian wheat crop turned out larger than was anticipated pre-harvest – this could possibly increase Russia’s export potential
  • Paris rapeseed futures (Nov-25) gained €1.00/t to €464.75/t yesterday, while futures for Feb-26 increased by €0.50/t to €465.50/t
  • Winnipeg canola futures (Nov-25) rose slightly yesterday, while Chicago soya bean futures (Nov-25) slightly fell by 0.1%. Market participants continued to monitor trade relations between the US and China (important for soya bean), as well as between Canada and China (important for canola)
