Planting and Variety Survey 2026 now open
Tuesday, 7 April 2026
Our annual Planting and Variety Survey (PVS) opens today, Tuesday 7 April. We’re asking cereal and oilseed rape growers across the UK to share information that will help us build an early picture of the 2026 harvest.
Your input is essential.
The PVS is the only annual pre-harvest survey that gives an early estimate of what might be available from the upcoming cereals and oilseed rape harvest in the UK.
The results help the whole industry plan ahead.
Why your contribution matters
The survey gives an early estimate of crop areas and varieties, broken down by crop type, UK flour miller group and malting or non-malting approved barley.
This insight supports growers in planning and marketing decisions for the year ahead. But the accuracy of this industry intelligence depends on enough growers taking part.
What we’re asking for
We’re asking cereal and oilseed rape growers to share:
- Crop and variety areas for the upcoming 2026 harvest
- Information from the 2025 harvest, so we can understand year-on-year change
- Information about agri-environment scheme uptake, to help assess the potential impact on cereal production
All crop areas count, whether owned or rented.
Helen Plant, Senior Analyst (Cereals and Oilseeds), said:
“By working together, we can produce accurate and reliable data to quantify domestic production.
“This survey is an important tool for arable farmers. Knowing more about our domestic market, such as the likely regional supply of cereal and oilseed rape crops, can help them make marketing decisions.
“However, its success depends on the goodwill of those who are willing to take part.
“We’re grateful to everyone who filled in a form last year. We look forward to seeing an even greater response in 2026.”
When will the results be available?
Survey results will be published by mid-June 2026 on our website.
The survey is open from Tuesday 7 April to Friday 15 May 2026.
