In contrast, nearby Paris milling wheat futures (Dec-25) eased 0.4%, pressured by ample global supply and strong competition from Black Sea exports
- Harvest is underway in Australia, where analysts surveyed by Reuters have raised their expectations for the 2025/26 wheat crop, which is estimated at a median of 35.7 Mt, up from 34.1 Mt last year (LSEG, USDA), with the crop in western Australia developing better than expected.
- Paris rapeseed futures (Nov-25) rose by €1.50/t yesterday to €463.75/t. Meanwhile, Winnipeg canola futures (Nov-25) eased by 0.1%, as harvest in Canada draws to a close
- Chicago soya bean futures (Nov-25) rose by 1.2% yesterday, reaching a one-month high. The uplift followed comments from US President Donald Trump expressing confidence that he believed China would agree to a soya bean trade deal and resume purchases of US soya beans
- In Brazil, soya bean planting is progressing well, with 21.7% of the national crop planted as at 18 October. This is up from 11% last week and ahead of 17.6% at the same point last year. Progress is even further ahead in the Mato Grosso region, which for 2025/26 is expected to account for 27.7% of Brazil’s soya bean production. Planting there is 39.8% complete, supported timely rains over the last 30 days. Favourable weather is forecast over the coming week in the Mato Grosso region, which could help maintain planting momentum and aid early crop development
