Based on the 1996 World Food Summit, food security is defined when all people, at all times, have physical and economic access to sufficient safe and nutritious food that meets their dietary needs and food preferences for an active and healthy life.

Defra have announced that there will be limits to the amount of land businesses are able to put into the Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) scheme. Businesses will only be able to put 25% of their land into the six land sparing SFI actions, those actions taking land out of food production.

The UK government have committed to publishing a report relating to food security in the UK at least once every three years as part of the Agriculture Act 2020 and the first report was published just before Christmas.

The course, aimed at practical people wishing to gain more knowledge on quality issues, highlights the distinction between carcase and meat quality and will explore the factors affecting eating quality from farm to fork. Various quality issues will be identified and the means to reduce or improve these outlined.
