Yield Enhancement Network (YEN): database analysis (2017–19)
Summary
About this project
The Oilseed Yield Enhancement Network (YEN) competition has generated a dataset based on about 150 oilseed rape (OSR) crops, across three harvest years (2017–19).
The exploitation of this data – which includes verified yields, along with details of soils, weather, inputs and yield components – could help identify factors associated with higher yields.
This project uses this data as a foundation for rigorous statistical analysis and expert interpretation to provide information to help increase the sustainability of oilseed rape production.
The work will encourage discussion of the key components that affect yield, including:
- The effect of region, soil type and climate
- The impact of establishment approach
- The influence of inputs (e.g. variety, fertiliser and plant protection products)
The analysis will also identify additional measures that would be useful in future YEN data, along with key questions that are likely to benefit from testing and research to improve yield.
A PowerPoint presentation with notes will convey the results from this work.
