Julius Deane

Julius has a career spanning right across the farming, grain trade and food sector. After working on arable, pig and sheep farms as a student, he took an agriculture degree at Reading University and then joined Cargill plc as a grain trader, specialising in malting barley and biscuit wheat. Wanting to move into the processing sector, Julius became a wheat buyer with Allied Mills. Looking to gain international experience, he then became commodities director at Westmill. In 2008, he joined Carr’s Flour Mills Ltd as wheat director. This role encompasses not only the procurement of milling wheat for three flour mills, but also the marketing of co-product into the animal feed sector and flour to large industrial bakery customers. Julius has a special interest in shipping logistics. He is also on the UK Flour Millers Wheat Committee and works with the Variety Working Party.
