Join us and KW Alternative Feeds for a series of meetings that challenge the common practices and principles of dairy nutrition.

AHDB Dairy’s Senior Scientist Dr Martina Dorigo and Liam Sinclair, Professor of Animal Science at Harper Adams University, will update you on the outcomes of a seven-year, levy-funded research partnership in ruminant nutrition led by the University of Nottingham.

KW Alternative Feeds Regional Technical Manager, Charlotte Ward, will then highlight available British protein sources to assist in reducing your dependence on soya, driving performance and lowering feed costs.

  • Mineral Nutrition – Assessing your herds’ mineral requirements and methods of managing minerals in the diet to avoid unnecessary and costly overfeeding or underfeeding, which can be damaging to health and performance.
  • Crude Protein – The crude protein content of diets fed to high yielding dairy cows often exceeds 18%, yet research findings show levels of 16% can be sufficient to sustain cows yielding > 40 kg without detrimental effects.

  • Protein sources – Soya has long been the ‘go-to’ feedstuff to provide rumen - bypass protein in dairy diets. As the industry faces continued scrutiny about its use and the market becomes more volatile, alternatives are being considered. NovaPro is a British protein that can reduce dependence on soya, drive performance and lower feed costs while lowering environmental impacts.

Who should attend? Dairy farmers, managers and their nutritional advisors responsible for nutrition planning in dairy herds.
