The EU-spec SPP continued its downwards trajectory in the week ending 20 February. The price averaged at 138.46p/kg, 1.17p less than in the previous week. This puts prices at 24.27p below the same week in the previous year, and 3.10p below the five-year average.
Estimated slaughter increased considerably on the week. Throughputs totalled 188,100 head, 12% more (21,500 head) than in the previous week. This puts slaughter above both the previous year and the five-year average.
Carcase weights increased by half a kilo on the week, averaging at 90.34kg. This puts weights at over 4.5kg heavier than the same week in the previous year.
In the week ending 13 February, the EU-spec APP averaged 143.11p/kg, 0.86p less than in the previous week. While the SPP did also decline in the same week, it did not fall to the same degree. As such, the gap between the two measures narrowed to 3.48p.
Unfortunately, the sample data for both the 7kg and 30kg weaner prices was not robust for the week ending 20 February and so no prices were published for this week.
