GB milk deliveries: Milk volumes in June scale new high
Wednesday, 9 July 2025
GB milk deliveries are estimated to have totalled 1,107 million litres in June, up by 6.2% compared to the same month last year and the highest June figure recorded. Daily deliveries averaged 36.90 million litres , with mid-June levels exceeding last year’s flush.
For the first quarter of this year’s milk season (April-June), production has totalled 3,432 million litres, up by 5.7% compared to the same period in 2024.
This season’s spring flush has been supported by favourable weather and dairy economics. Following strong production throughout the flush and beyond, we saw June deliveries continue to show significantly higher increases compared to last year.
The Met Office reported a warmer and sunnier weather than average June. This was provisionally England’s warmest June on record, with a mean temperature of 16.9°C (2.5°C above the long-term average). While total rainfall for June was close to the normal levels, there was a strong regional variation. Many areas of the UK saw below 50% of the 1991–2020 average, building on deficits from an already dry spring. However, Cornwall and Devon and areas of Wales, western Scotland and the North West were quite wet.

Data collected by AHDB Forage for Knowledge showed total recorded grass growth well below the long term average throughout most of May and into June. However, from Mid-June, we have seen grass growth improve, briefly sitting above both year ago and historic average levels but again varied wildly depending on where received rain. Forage stocks are becoming a concern for many.
The milk to feed price ratio remains firmly in the expansion zone, and milk price announcements for July have remained fairly stable, despite soaring milk volumes in the domestic market.
