GB milk deliveries: volumes continue to grow
Tuesday, 10 February 2026
GB milk deliveries in January totalled an estimated 1,080 million litres, up 3.3% compared to the same period in 2025. Deliveries averaged 34.8 million litres per day.
Production for this milk year so far (April-January) has reached 10,913 million litres, up 5.2% compared to the same period in the previous milk year. Milk volumes have recorded new highs this season and this is the highest volume logged in January on record.
Favourable dairy economics and higher use of concentrate feed have been supporting growth. However, farm gate price cuts, which began in the autumn have been increasing in severity. Further cuts for early 2026 by processors are likely to weigh on milk flows in the coming months.
The Met Office reported temperatures below the average in the UK during the first half of the month and wet weather swept through in the second half of the month. January remained a month of extreme climatic conditions. The high amounts of rainfall begin to have more implications for grazing feasibility as we approach the spring.
Global milk flows continue to surge amid a period of sluggish demand. Milk deliveries on the continent also saw strong growth in the autumn following delayed spring calving.
The recovery in GDT this year during last three consecutive sessions, as well as reported continental prices, indicates prices could have reached the floor with some tightness in commodities such as SMP.
Milk prices are likely to decline on the back of easing commodity prices until the first half of the year. For a detailed outlook on production and prices see our Dairy Market Outlook published in January.
