Grow More, Graze More, Earn More: GB-wide workshops

Thursday, 19 July 2018

A successful 2019 grazing season starts now.

Your pasture management this autumn will determine grass availability, quality and intakes next year. And with every extra tonne of grass grazed increasing profit by £334 per hectare, can you afford not to be ready?

Quality grass influences ‘milk output from forage’ which is one of AHDB’s key performance indicators and critical to success for blocking calving systems.

Grassland consultant Andre van Barneveld from Graise Dairy Farm Consultancy and AHDB’s Siwan Howatson will help you plan your rotational grazing management for a successful spring turnout.

Topics will include:

  • Target autumn grass covers – to build cover, or not?
  • Flat wedge, or steep wedge? And its impact on target closing covers
  • Supplement feeding autumn calvers at grass
  • Maximising profit from spring calvers in autumn
  • Matching peak milk production from autumn calvers to grazing
  • Well-managed grass is 12 ME all year = lessons from AHDB’s Forage for Knowledge

‘Grow more, Graze more and Earn more’ meetings are aimed at farm owners and staff who are actively involved in rotational paddock grazing management.

All meetings are 10:30 coffee and registration with 11:00 prompt start and 15:00 finish. Lunch included.

The cost of attending this meeting is funded via your levy.  Please ensure you register your attendance for catering purposes.

Please ensure you wear a clean pair of wellington boots and clothing for biosecurity reasons and out of respect for the host farm.
