Pig prices continue steady rise

The GB EU-Spec SPP rose 2.23p in the week ending 9 July, to 191.11p/kg.
Estimated slaughter stood at 178,100 head, over 5,000 more than the previous week, bringing year to date clean pig slaughter just short of 5 million head. Carcase weights averaged 88.48kg, down 530g on the previous week.
The EU-Spec APP was up 1.83p at 194.57p/kg for the week ending 2 July, narrowing the gap of the two price series to 5.69p.
From next week (week commencing 18 July) pig prices commentary will be published on a Thursday morning, rather than a Wednesday afternoon.
