SPP bounces back up
Wednesday, 25 May 2022
In the week ending 21 May, the EU spec SPP increased by 3.19p to 175.95p/kg, still a way off from matching the estimated cost of production, but heading in the right direction.
Estimated slaughter was down 3.7% this week to 178,600 head with average carcase weights at 91.06kg. These weights are down 5kg from their heaviest recording back in late January, but still remain 5kg heavier than at the same time last year.
In the week ending 14 May, the EU spec APP sat at 180.43p/kg, little change from the week previous (+0.36p). This narrows the gap between the two price series to 7.67p.
