A summary of the pork market in 2023 

• The 2023 average annual deadweight GB SPP rose 22.44% on the previous year to reach 217.36p/kg
• The 2023 average annual GB deadweight APP rose 19.13% in 2023 on 2022 to reach 217.81p/kg
• The average EU deadweight grade E pig price for 2023 was up 25.9% compared to the previous year to reach 198.01p/kg. The global export prices, based upon the EU, Brazil, Canada and the USA, were up 1.7% to reach 229.13p/kg
• GB retail sales of primary and processed pork in 2023 stood at £0.84bn and £4.09bn, respectively
• UK total pig slaughterings fell from 11.2 million in 2022 to 10.1 million in 2023
• UK self-sufficiency for pork in 2023 fell back to 58.0% from 62.4% in 2022
• UK pig meat and related offal exports in 2023 stood at 165 Kt and 133 Kt, respectively
• The EU still forms the dominant export market for UK pig meat, with 57% of shipments being sent there in 2023. Offal exports are dominated by non-EU markets accounting for 72% of shipments
