Join us at the Rough Grounds Strategic Dairy Farm closing meeting, hosted by the Worseys at Rough Grounds Farm.

We'll be joined by our genetics team, including Gaynor Wellwood, along with a farmer panel to explore the role of genetics in building a profitable herd.

We’ll explore:

  • How to use herd genetic reports to understand your herd’s strengths and identify opportunities for improvement
  • What different genetic evaluations and traits mean in practice when making breeding decisions
  • How cow size, breed and feed efficiency can influence herd performance and profitability
  • What makes a robust and resilient cow, and how genetics can help build resilience to future challenges
  • Where genomic testing fits into a breeding strategy and how to decide which animals to breed from
  • How farmers with different systems are using genetics to shape the future of their herds
  • The Worseys’ genetic progress over the last three years and the practical changes they have seen within the herd

Genetic improvement takes time. We'll look at what a profitable cow looks like and how breeding decisions made today can influence the future performance, resilience and profitability of your business.

Through practical discussion and real farm experiences, we'll hear from farmers with a range of systems and breeding goals as they share where their herds started, what they are selecting for and the changes they have seen along the way and how this has effected their efficiency.

The Worseys will then reflect on their Strategic Dairy Farm journey, sharing the challenges, changes and successes they've experienced, and the key lessons learned along the way. Covering a broad range of topics - genetics, soils, herbal leys, calves, CFP and costings. They'll also discuss their future plans and what comes next for the business as they continue to develop and improve their herd and farm performance.

Whether you already have a clear breeding strategy or are wondering where to start, this event will provide practical ideas to help you make more informed genetic decisions for your herd.

Arrival and refreshments from 10:30am. A light lunch will be provided.
