Japanese import requirements for Beef, Lamb and Pork
Japan continues to represent a valuable market for UK beef, lamb and pork exporters, with AHDB export data showing that in 2025 the UK shipped £5.28 million of pork, £9.80 million of beef and around £0.30 million of lamb to the market.
This session is designed to ensure UK levy payers are fully informed of current import requirements and key considerations when exporting meat to Japan, helping them maximise opportunities in this important market.
The webinar will feature presentations from DEFRA and the Food Standards Agency, covering Export Health Certificate requirements — including the latest updates — as well as operational considerations, such as recent adjustments linked to our BSE negligible risk status and audit insights, and an overview of the approval process for exporting to Japan.
Participants will gain practical insight into Japan’s import conditions, documentation and certification expectations, and the steps needed to ensure compliance. The session will help exporters strengthen their readiness and maximise opportunities in this high‑value market.
Ouafa Doxon, Head of Market Access, said:
“It is essential for our exporters to stay up to date with Japan’s import requirements to maintain and protect our access to this high‑value market. The aim of our webinar is to equip businesses with the latest insight and practical information to support their export ambitions.”
