Another mixed bag for GB lamb prices

The liveweight OSL SQQ breached the 300p/kg mark in the week ending 7 April, climbing an impressive 19p to average 307.58p/kg. This is the highest liveweight old season lamb price seen since at least 2015. This measure is now 95p above the five - year average.
Estimated throughputs at GB auction marts stood at 96,500 head for the week, down 7% (7,300 head) on the previous week. The number of new season lambs coming forward lifted 3% on the week, although old season animals still accounted for 95% of total throughputs.
The GB OSL SQQ dropped back for a second consecutive week, down just over 7p to average 619.3p/kg in the week ending 3 April. Prices continue to trend well above those seen last year, up 180p on the same week in 2020, and 162p above the five-year average.
Estimated throughput dropped back notably on the previous week, down 21,300 head (12%) to total 156,700 head. Estimated slaughter levels remain much lower than that seen a year ago, down 13% (22,600 head) compared to the same week last year.
Cull ewes averaged £110.06/head, up £14 on the week.
