Become the best at the Sheep Breeders’ Round Table event
Thursday, 2 May 2019
Following its success in 2017, the Sheep Breeders’ Round Table event has expanded and will return in November.
The focus will be on how the UK can become the best sheep industry in the world and there will now be an additional session at its new home at the Radisson Blu Hotel, East Midlands Airport.
The event, which takes place from 15-17 November, is organised by AHDB Beef & Lamb, AgriSearch, the National Sheep Association (NSA), Hybu Cig Cymru – Meat Promotion Wales (HCC) and Quality Meat Scotland (QMS), is open to anyone with an interest in sheep production and attracts a varied audience of farmers, breeders, researchers and vets.
This year, there will be a new Friday morning session sponsored by iSAGE (Innovation for Sustainable Sheep and Goat Production in Europe) which will concentrate on developing resilience in the UK sheep industry.
Keynote speaker Nick Friggens, from INRA, will explore precision agriculture and the genomic revolution. Other topics include Kate Phillips from Harper Adams University speaking on selecting for parasite resistance, Sean Fair talking about artificial insemination and Nicola Lambe from SRUC focusing on ewe efficiency.
Delegates will also have the opportunity to choose from a selection of workshops on topics such as iceberg diseases, laryngeal chondritis (Texel throat), antibiotic use, new tools from Signet and social media for marketing stock. In addition, a series of breeders and breeding groups will discuss the vision, mission, successes and failures of their sheep breeding businesses in an open and honest discussion on Sunday.
