Beef from grass – developing efficient beef systems

Farmers who took part in the AHDB Beef and Lamb-funded project, Beef from Grass, have seen fantastic results through implementing rotational grazing into their systems, with some trialling outwintering. The group of farmers increased stocking rates and daily liveweight gains over the lifespan of the project, seeing gross margins per hectare increased from an average of £419/ha to £653/ha. The project aimed to increase profitability per hectare by addressing three areas:

1. Increase stocking rate across the grazing platform
2. Increase growth rates from grazing and silage
3. Reduce the number of days cattle are housed
