Getting to know Tom Dracup

Thursday, 2 March 2023

Tom Dracup is the new lead analyst for red meat at AHDB. He started his role in November 2022, having worked in agriculture throughout his career. He is eager to embrace the opportunities and challenges the position brings and is looking forward to interacting with levy payers.

Before joining AHDB, Tom held several roles at the National Farmers Union (NFU), including Livestock Adviser, Project Manager and as a Senior Policy Manager. Working with members to achieve the best outcomes for farming businesses.

In spite of the difficulties facing the pork sector, it is more crucial than ever to be intensely focused on ensuring we continue to offer and improve on the essential market information that levy payers need.

In my role, I hold the responsibility for producing our market outputs, ensuring market information is analysed and presented to levy payers in a meaningful way. Some of our key outputs include analysing both domestic and international livestock market prices, production, and trade figures to provide insights for your business. Another key output of the team is the industry outlooks, forecasting market development, with our latest being the first Agri Market Outlook for 2023.

Alongside this market information, I also lead other crucial data series for the benefit of pork producers, such as the estimated cost of production (COP) monthly updates, ensuring AHDB provides accurate and timely figures, and estimating how volatile input cost centres are impacting your bottom line. We also contribute to the Pork Weekly e-newsletter, which you can subscribe to here, to help make sure we deliver important information to you.

All these workstreams would not be possible without an excellent team, which includes Livestock Analyst (Pork and Dairy), Freya Shuttleworth and Senior Analyst, Hannah Clarke. As a team, we always welcome the opportunity to hear from you, so please do get in touch with Freya or me if you would like to discuss any of these areas and what information would be most beneficial to your businesses in the future. I look forward to getting out and about over the coming months, but in the meantime, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
