Liveweight lamb prices move down
Thursday, 30 April 2020
Liveweight lamb prices moved in a downwards direction this week. Reports suggested a lack of export demand took away some support from the market. The declines were seen across both old season and new season lambs.
In the week ended 29 April, the GB liveweight OSL SQQ fell 2.36p week-on-week, to 209.70p/kg. It was a strong price last Thursday that held the weekly price up, as all other days during the week were below the 210p mark. Total throughputs for the week stood at 96,500 head.
During the week ending 25 April, the GB deadweight OSL SQQ increased 6p week-on-week, to 463.8p/kg. The NSL quote for the week increased 9.7p, to 516.4p/kg. Estimated kill* for the week increased on the week, to 187,200 head. Kill levels remain generally suppressed.
*Estimated slaughter figures should be treated with caution currently, as more animals than usual may have been sold deadweight.
