Outdoor pig farmer survey
Thursday, 22 May 2025
The Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) is conducting a survey to gather insights and opinions from outdoor pig keepers to identify the biosecurity measures implemented on outdoor pig farms.
The aim is to get a better picture of the biosecurity strategies used in the UK and the challenges around applying these in an outdoor setting.
With African swine fever (ASF) well established within parts of Europe and rising concerns around the disease being transmitted through contact between wildlife and livestock, this is an important time to assess the situation.
The short online survey will ask you about the biosecurity protocols that are currently in use on the farm that you work on. It will take approximately 15 minutes to complete, and data will be anonymised.
If you choose to provide your contact details, these will only be used to contact you about a follow-up study that will explore the drivers and barriers influencing biosecurity uptake, including practical challenges and cost.
This survey is part of a large European project concerning biosecurity and outdoor livestock production, with data being gathered from other countries and from other livestock sectors.
