Meat consumption has been increasing among the middle classes in the region (the OECD includes Mexico as part of Latin America). Between 2019 and 2021 the average consumption was 61 kg per person per year, compared with the global average of 34 kg per person per year (Source: OECD).

Currently, the UK has export health certificates to export red meat to only two countries in South America, Central America, Panama and the Dominican Republic (CAPDR). Strong competition from the USA, Brazil and Argentina adds to the challenges the UK faces in this market, but there is potential ahead, particularly for offal.
