Join us for the next meeting at our Scottish all-year-round (AYR) calving strategic dairy farm where we’re looking at making informed choices to improve mastitis control in the herd.

Healthy cattle are at the heart of profitable dairy farming. However, the challenge to prevent clinical mastitis and maintain low cell counts is relentless for all dairy farmers. In this meeting William Baillie will share his approach to preventing mastitis in his herd along with his experiences, the lessons learned so far and what his next steps will be.

Dr James Breen, a recognised cattle health and production specialist with expertise in mastitis control, will provide an overview of the AHDB Dairy Mastitis Control Plan with William. Together they aim to highlight examples of farm risk assessment as well as a systematic analysis of the cell count, clinical mastitis data and other farm records to identify key priorities and help other farmers make better informed decisions about mastitis management in their herds.

In the meeting we will discuss:

  • Current herd health and mastitis management at Hillhead of Covington
  • Taking a systematic approach to identifying suitable mastitis control measures in a herd
  • Exploring the tools and resources available to inform mastitis control plans including the AHDB Mastitis Pattern Analysis Tool
  • Implementing the AHDB Mastitis Control Plan and setting future targets
  • Current business performance against key performance indicators (KPIs) for AYR calving herds
  •

Who should attend?

Dairy farmers with a keen interest to reduce clinical mastitis and/or cell count in their herd. Anyone who is keen to learn from others about controlling mastitis for optimal herd and business performance.

By kind permission of William Baillie
