This is known as Pica, and reports of pica in dairy herds have been increasing over recent years. AHDB and APHA are looking for dairy farms to help in a project, to improve understanding of pica so that advice and prevention measures are up to date.

For this project, we need farms that have had experience of pica and farms with no experience of pica this grazing season, to help our understanding.
We are looking for both affected and non-affected spring–calving dairy herds in England, Scotland and Wales to take part. Please contact the pica study team at Carmarthen@apha.gov.uk for more information.
