GB cattle prices hold steady

For the week ending 9 January, the GB deadweight all prime price held relatively steady, lifting just 0.5p on the previous week to average 371.6p/kg. This measure is currently 41p above the price achieved for the same week last year, and 27p above the five-year average.
Estimated prime cattle throughput for the week totalled 31,600 head, down 1.8% (600 head) compared to the same week last year.
Weekly prime cattle price movements for w/e 9 January:
- Overall steers: 372.6p/kg +1.6p
- Overall heifers: 372.3p/kg -0.2p
- Overall young bulls: 354.0p/kg -1.1p
The GB deadweight average cull cow price also held steady on the week, rising just 0.5p for the week ending 9 January, to average 237.0p/kg. This now puts cull cow prices up 19p on the same week last year, and almost 22p above the five-year average. For those meeting the -O4L specification, prices averaged 256.4p/kg for the same week.
Cull cow throughput totalled 11,000 head, down 1.8% (200 head) on the same week last year.
