Lamb prices up
Thursday, 14 April 2022
Lamb prices have again increased on week earlier levels. Growth in the liveweight old season SQQ has slowed, gaining 1.43p week-on-week to 276.32p/kg. Daily prices recorded a mix of trends.
Auction market finished lamb throughputs for the week totalled 131,200 head, slightly up on the prior week. This reflects both the final run up to Easter, and the on-going good availability of finished lambs.
The deadweight SQQ increased almost 17p, to 592.9 p/kg in the week ended 9 April. This week would have been peak Easter kill. Unsurprisingly, a large volume of lamb is reported have landed recently in the country to help the UK meet Easter demand. GB prices however, remain strong compared to historic averages.
Cull ewe prices have also remained strong, buoyed by continued Ramadan demand.
