Liveweight lamb prices ease, deadweight prices tick up
Thursday, 18 August 2022
For the week ending 17 August, the GB liveweight NSL SQQ stood at 240.4p/kg, down 11p from the previous week. The NSL SQQ currently stands almost 44p higher than the 5-year average and just over 2p higher than this time last year.
Throughputs totalled 103,000 head, equal to the week previous but a 7% (2,500 head) decline on the number brought forward for the same week a year ago. Markets have been recording lighter trade recently down to the unprecedented hot weather. Overall market throughputs in the year to date were up 3%.
Cull ewes averaged £78.90 per head, with 43,200 having been brought forward in the week.
The GB deadweight NSL SQQ rose almost 20p to 545.4p/kg in the week ending 13 August, 30p above this time last year. This will be a welcome uplift after the large drops seen in the previous two weeks.
Estimated GB slaughter for the week also increased, up 11% (20,600 head) on the previous week to 202,000 head, only 2,500 (1%) below throughputs seen at this time a year ago.
