Spanish lamb exports up, while domestic consumption down

Spanish exports of fresh and frozen sheep meat increased 2,000 tonnes year-on-year during the year-to Nov, to 38,000 tonnes. However, shipments to France have decreased. Offsetting this though, exports to Italy have increased. Over half of the exports are of carcases.
Helping to drive the increase in exports, Spanish lamb retail sales were down around 6% year-on-year during the first 10 months of the year. This is likely to have increased the volume of product available for export despite production decreasing. During the first 11 months of 2019, production is back almost 3,000 tonnes, to 103,000 tonnes cwe, according to Eurostat data.
