Monitor Farm Scotland: Shetland

The next Shetland Monitor Farm meeting will be held on Saturday 8 June 2019, courtesy of Kirsty and Aimee Budge from Bigton Farm, the Shetland Monitor Farm.

We have Jim Logan from Printaton Farm coming to speak to us. Printaton extends to 1,400 acres (570 ha) rising from 750ft to 1,700 ft and has a mixture of temporary and permanent grass with a significant area of rough grazing. Among other changes he has adopted rotational grazing which has allowed a significant increase in the size of
his ewe flock.

Jim will be speaking about the process of change covering where his buisness was and where it is today

We are heading to Scholland Farm to follow up on the forage crops that our Chairman, Jamie Leslie, has been experimenting with. Jamie will be speaking about

• fodder beet
• deferred grazing
• grass YEN (yield enhancement network)

• Derek will give an update on the farm business audit and the innovation funding
• Kirsty and Aimee will give an update on what has happened on Bigton Farm since the March meeting including, lambing, calving and trials planned for this year.
