Neil Brown Strategic Farm - Data driven decisions
Join AHDB and Shropshire Strategic Farmer, Neil Brown to review Neil’s first year of being in the AHDB Beef & Lamb Strategic Farm Programme.
In particular, we will discuss how Neil is working towards making data driven decisions and looking at the practicalities of collecting on-farm commercial data including:
- Losses at lambing
- Lameness incidence in sheep
- Weights
- Faecal egg counts
We will consider why it’s important to collect data, the practicalities of doing so in a commercial setting and then how that information is used to inform decisions.
About Neil
Neil, alongside his father, runs a mixed beef & sheep farm in Ludlow, Shropshire comprising of 800 ewes and 25 suckler cows. Neil joined the strategic farm programme in late 2019 with a sheep focus.
Throughout his time in the programme, Neil aims to continue to benchmark farm performance, collect more physical performance data, make better use of EID and weigh kit, improve grassland management, review the suckler herd performance and ultimately reduce lamb finishing times and hard feed usage.
