Video: Why is pork demand struggling?

There were three key results:

• Pork is seen as less tasty than beef and lamb and harder to cook than beef or chicken
• Despite being one of the cheaper proteins in supermarkets, retail prices have risen faster than some of the other proteins and in particular chicken where the price gap has widened
• Pork has seen growth in the foodservice market, but because over 86% of pork volumes are through retail, overall demand is in decline
