Update on activity at Dairy Farm – Ian Norbury, host and James Hadwin, independent consultant
11.20 am Replacement heifer strategy – Ian Norbury and James Hadwin
Ian and James will discuss the decision process at Dairy Farm on which heifers are retained for breeding, how this is achieved and how efficiencies have been improved in the suckler herd
Improving soils to maximise grass yields – Liz Genever, independent consultant
Soils are key in getting the most out of grassland. Liz will discuss what to look at when assessing soils and the key factors in improving soils
Selecting stock for slaughter – Steve Powdrill, AHDB
Understanding market requirements and ensuring stock fall into the required spec is vital to maximise returns form sales. Steve will cover the key areas to handle on a beast and how that translates to the carcase
