Foodservice focus for British red meat in Canada

Tuesday, 2 April 2024

Canada’s leading foodservice and hospitality expo will provide the platform for British beef, lamb and pork set to take a starring role.

One export business will join us at the Restaurants Canada (RC) Show in Toronto from 8–10 April 2024.

The show, which is expected to attract more than 22,000 visitors from Canada and around the world, will provide the opportunity to connect with key foodservice buyers, influencers and operators.

Our analysis has highlighted opportunities for premium red meat products in Canada, which are differentiated from domestic production. In 2023, the UK exported 2,097 t of beef to Canada, worth £10m, 812 t of pork worth £2.5m, and 619 t of sheep meat worth £2.6m.

Susana Morris, AHDB Senior Trade Development Manager, said:

“We are delighted to be taking part in the RC Show again to shine a spotlight on quality beef, lamb and pork from Britain. Canada presents opportunities for premium red meat products from Britain and the show is the perfect stage for us to showcase this to the foodservice sector.

“Canadian consumers are increasingly interested in the origin of the food in their diets. They also have a relatively high disposable income to purchase high-quality products that our producers and processors are well placed to supply.”

Our presence at the RC Show caps a busy period for our export team in the Americas region, which has included taking part in Expo ANTAD in Guadalajara, Mexico, to promote British pork offal, and the Annual Meat Conference in Nashville, USA, to promote beef, lamb and pork.

Susana added:

“Four exporters joined us in Mexico for Expo ANTAD, which attracted a record 40,000 visitors and led to positive meetings during the show and off stand. With increasing pig meat consumption in Mexico, the long-term prospects for British pork in this market are encouraging.

“Similarly, AMC gave us the opportunity to showcase high-quality British beef, lamb and pork as well as providing us, and the four beef and lamb exporters that joined us, with valuable insight into market trends in the US that they can capitalise on.”
