French lamb production, in contrast to British production, peaks in the Spring. Therefore, the French market is just now heading into peak production. Last year France produced 81,800 tonnes of sheep meat in total, a similar total volume to 2020, and to the five-year average.

Watery mouth is an infectious bacterial disease that can kill newborn lambs usually within the first 3 days of life. Lambs pick up infection from the environment and the bacteria multiply very rapidly in the gut. Affected lambs die within hours.
