Today’s students are tomorrow’s consumers
Monday, 12 July 2021
Children are the consumers of tomorrow. They are key to ensuring the long-term sustainability of our food and farming industry, and we are committed to increasing their understanding of where and how their food is grown, reared and produced.
We host, fund and support an array of education programmes and initiatives and work alongside other education providers, such as NFU Education and LEAF Education, to avoid competing with or replicating existing initiatives.
One of our key areas of work is Food – a fact of life (FFL), which we deliver with the British Nutrition Foundation (BNF). This programme aims to increase knowledge about where food comes from and help young people develop cooking skills and healthy eating habits.

Through increased reach and impact, the partnership aims to achieve greater value by working together – achievements so far are a testament to this.
Despite lockdown posing many challenges, online learning helped drive record numbers of visitors to the FFL website during the 2020/21 financial year (up 80% on the previous year), resource downloads (up 150% on the previous year) and YouTube subscribers (656 new subscribers). This has helped raise awareness of FFL and extend its reach.
Elsa Healey, Senior Education Manager, said: “We are delighted to see teachers and parents making use of the huge breadth of content on the website and benefiting from the free online training that’s available.”
A recent survey has further shown that the programme delivers genuine and positive results in the classroom for both teachers and pupils.
